BIO interview: Using the Art and Craft of Research
“I love writing, as painful as it is. I can write for 10 or more hours at a stretch. As any editor I’ve ever worked with will amply attest, I write long and the words come fast, and then I cut mercilessly. But in the aftermath and aftershock of the publication of Morgenthau, I can readily say that research motivates me first and foremost, because it is detective work in some ways. It is the organization of my madness. It’s not anarchic, but it is organic.”

NYT Op Ed: Robert Morgenthau's Greatest Fear: Trump
“Each saw opportunity in the other: The D.A., ever expedient in his drive to fund his favored causes, needed the checks, and the real estate man, ever eager to antagonize a business foe, sought an ally in law enforcement.... The D.A. had a blind spot when it came to Mr. Trump, one he would recognize years later. ”

The New Yorker: Best Books of 2023
“There’s enough here for four separate biographies, but Meier ably synthesizes the various strands, finding family likenesses among his disparate subjects.”
